What we do

We make education and prospects possible

In remote regions of the Global South, education indicators are markedly worse than the global average. The reasons are remoteness, poverty and missing infrastructure. We support the building of schools and training centres. We also fly in specialists and trainees to strengthen local skills.

Literacy

We fly teachers and teaching materials into cut-off villages so that people there can learn to read and write. Their opportunities improve markedly as a result.

Basic education

We help partner organisations vaccinate children in remote areas and make treatment for diarrhoea, malaria and lung infections – as well as health education – possible.

Higher education

We also bring in trainees for specific vocational qualifications, along with the corresponding teaching materials, to make higher professional qualifications possible locally.

Unemployment

To help communities become independent in the long term through new income opportunities and self-sufficiency, we bring in tools, seed and trainers.

Public spending

In the countries where MAF operates, public spending on education is often budgeted at very low levels. Working with numerous partner organisations, we help close the gaps in infrastructure.

Human Capital Index

The HCI measures the potential a child born today can realise by the age of 18 (calculated from the country's health and education indicators). Airlifts can improve the HCI.

Where roads end, hope often ends too. Remoteness then means isolation rather than freedom. To counter that isolation, we work on:

Health and hygiene

Our medevac flights make medical care possible where medicines and staff are lacking. We provide clean drinking water and sanitation to fight diseases such as cholera.
